Winter in South Canterbury means that the bees are quiet and keeping warm in the hive. So what do the beekeepers do whilst the bees are snuggled up? đ
Maintenance!!! Due to the inactivity of the bees this is the time of year that beekeepers can finally put there feet up⌠sort of đĽ´
While beekeepers catch up on some well needed and deserved rest, they also need to make sure any maintenance is done so everything is ready for the next honey season.
This includes:
- Making new frames, boxes and base boards
- Repairing anything that looks like it needs a good fix
- Giving the place a good clean
- Pottle the seasons honey
- Visit the Timaru Artisan Farmers Market every Saturday from 9-12:30pm
